Abstract

The increasing adoption of distributed cloud applications has expanded the cybersecurity attack surface, creating challenges in detecting sophisticated threats across interconnected services, workloads, identities, and data environments. Traditional security mechanisms often analyze events independently, limiting their ability to identify coordinated attacks that span multiple cloud components. This research proposes a proactive cyber defense framework that integrates graph analytics with real-time threat correlation to improve threat detection, attack prediction, and incident response in distributed cloud environments. The framework models cloud resources, users, applications, network connections, and security events as interconnected graph entities, enabling the identification of suspicious relationships and abnormal behavioral patterns. Real-time streaming pipelines collect telemetry from cloud platforms, identity providers, application logs, network monitoring systems, and endpoint security tools. Graph-based algorithms, including community detection, centrality analysis, and temporal relationship analysis, are combined with machine learning techniques to identify attack paths, lateral movement, privilege escalation, and coordinated malicious activities. A risk-scoring mechanism prioritizes threats according to behavioral deviations, asset criticality, and contextual evidence. The proposed methodology emphasizes scalability, low-latency processing, explainable alerts, and automated response integration. Evaluation metrics include detection accuracy, precision, recall, false-positive rate, processing latency, and resource utilization. The framework aims to strengthen proactive security operations by enabling contextual threat identification, continuous risk assessment, and timely mitigation across heterogeneous distributed cloud applications.
