Abstract

The rapid expansion of cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, remote work, application programming interfaces, and interconnected digital infrastructures has significantly increased the complexity of modern cybersecurity. Conventional security approaches that depend primarily on static rules, periodic assessments, and human intervention are increasingly challenged by rapidly evolving and automated cyber threats. This paper examines an adaptive cybersecurity automation framework that integrates agentic artificial intelligence (AI), zero-trust architecture, and continuous risk assessment to improve organizational cyber resilience. Agentic AI can support autonomous security monitoring, threat analysis, decision-making, and response by coordinating multiple security functions according to defined objectives and constraints. Zero-trust architecture complements this capability by continuously validating identities, devices, applications, and access requests rather than assuming implicit trust based on network location. Continuous risk assessment further enables security controls to respond dynamically to changes in user behavior, system configurations, vulnerabilities, and threat intelligence. The proposed approach conceptualizes cybersecurity as a continuously adaptive process rather than a collection of isolated preventive controls. The study develops a qualitative research methodology based on systematic literature analysis, conceptual framework development, and comparative evaluation of existing cybersecurity approaches. The research identifies opportunities and challenges associated with autonomous security operations, including explainability, false positives, adversarial manipulation, privacy, governance, and human oversight. The framework demonstrates how agentic automation can be aligned with zero-trust principles to support proactive, risk-sensitive, and context-aware cybersecurity management.
