Abstract

Security Magazine’s 2022 annual review identified several dominant cyber risks that shaped the global threat landscape, including the surge in ransomware campaigns, growing attacks on cloud infrastructure, and the persistent threat of social engineering. As enterprises continued digital expansion through hybrid work, IoT deployments, and 5G integrations, their attack surfaces widened dramatically—introducing new, poorly governed endpoints and shadow IT. Meanwhile, cybercriminal organizations evolved into structured, business-like entities, often outpacing traditional security models in agility and innovation. This article explores the most significant cyber threats of 2022, the factors that amplified them, and the shifting mindset toward adaptive, risk-based cybersecurity strategies. It calls for a unified approach involving public-private collaboration, real-time threat intelligence, and scalable security architectures.
