Abstract

The digital information revolution has brought about profound changes in our society and our lives. The
many advantages of digital information have also generated new challenges and new opportunities for innovation.
This thesis discusses the issues regarding multimedia data hiding and its application to multimedia security and
communication, addressing both theoretical and practical aspects, and tackling both design and attack problems.
Spread-spectrum embedding borrows ideas from spread-spectrum modulation. The basic process of spreadspectrum
embedding consists of four steps. The first step is to identify and compute features that will carry
watermark signals. Depending on the application and design requirements, the features can be signal samples,
transform coefficients (such as DCT and DFT coefficients), or other functions of the media content
