Abstract

Autonomous enterprise workflows are becoming increasingly important as organizations manage complex hybrid cloud infrastructures that combine on-premises data centers, private clouds, public cloud platforms, edge environments, and software-as-a-service applications. Conventional workflow automation typically depends on predefined rules, static scripts, and manually configured orchestration processes. Although these approaches can automate repetitive activities, they have limited ability to interpret changing operational contexts, respond to unexpected infrastructure conditions, and coordinate tasks across heterogeneous environments. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) introduces a new approach by enabling systems to interpret natural-language objectives, generate workflow actions, summarize operational information, and adapt processes according to contextual requirements. However, increased autonomy also introduces significant security and governance concerns. An AI system capable of generating and executing infrastructure actions could potentially make unauthorized changes, access sensitive resources, or propagate an incorrect decision across multiple cloud environments. Policy-driven security can address these concerns by establishing explicit rules governing what autonomous systems can access, modify, execute, and communicate. This research proposes an integrated framework combining Generative AI, autonomous workflow orchestration, and policy-driven security for hybrid cloud infrastructure. The framework emphasizes controlled autonomy, continuous policy evaluation, identity-aware authorization, auditability, and human oversight for high-risk operations. The research evaluates workflow efficiency, task accuracy, security-policy compliance, response time, resource utilization, and autonomous decision quality. The expected contribution is a structured approach for enabling intelligent enterprise automation while maintaining security, governance, accountability, and operational control across hybrid cloud environments.
